Welcome to 1/2!
What are we learning?
In our maths lessons this term we will be focusing heavily on number, place value, addition and subtraction. We will be counting in 2s 5s 10s and starting to look at division as sharing. We will also look at 2D and 3D shapes as well as money and money problems. Year 2 children will focus on securing basic number facts and number bonds as well as their knowledge of fractions, beginning with quarters.
In English we will be following ‘the write stuff’ and our first unit will be ‘Aarghh Spider’. We will also be constantly improving our letter formation, phonics and sentence skills.
In the first half term our science topic is living things and their habitats. Later in the term our topic will change to electricity which will also link to our DT project of electrical circuits. In Geography we will learn about different climates and in history we will learn about famous people including Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr.
Wednesday is our PE day.
Spellings are sent home on a Monday and tested on a Friday (from the end of September).
Children should be reading at home every day if possible and this recorded in their diary please.
