Welcome to Nursery!

This term we have welcomed a few new children into the nursery setting, along with two new members of staff, Katie and Becci.  The children and staff have settled in very well now.

During the first two weeks of the Spring Term the staffs have spent time observing and getting to know the children really well, including their likes and dislikes.

The children have shown a real interest in painting and playdough activities.

We have been trialling ‘Planning in the Moment’, which focuses on the children’s interests and desire to learn.  This has allowed the children to make their own choices of play and activities and learn through play with a little adult support. We will continue to include this ethos as much as possible in the following weeks after half term.

Alongside this, we have celebrated Chinese New Year.  The children have made paper lanterns, tried Chinese writing and had a go at dragon dancing (which they loved).  We are pleased with our Dragon display, which the children helped to create.

Lots of Sensory activities have been provided, such as shaving foam and gloop, the children also like making their own playdough in a tuff tray.

We have talked a lot about winter and our natural environment. The Children have enjoyed playing with our Winter Display scene too, and learning a little about Penguins.

Our book has been The Jolly Postman, which we have linked to activities around the Goldilocks story.

After the half-term, we will find out about ‘Ourselves’, through our mini-theme, which will lead into ‘Where we Live’.  We will talk about St David’s Day and Wales within this topic.

We will celebrate Pancake Day and try pancakes, St Patrick ’s Day and Mother’s Day too.

Also we will be having weekly music sessions, with Rosie, which I think the children will enjoy.

The fun will begin when we follow some of the children’s interest such as Peppa Pig, Toy Story, Mermaids and Unicorns.

We will then start to think about Spring and Easter leading into the End of a nice busy term.

Hopefully next term we will be able to start to go to the Forest again, you will know in advance though.
