Welcome to Base 5!
What we are learning
In English this term, we will be writing and performing poems, rewriting the story of Aladdin and writing a set of instructions. Alongside our English Lessons, we will be doing daily spelling practise. The children need to be confident in spelling the statutory spellings for their year group and spellings will be given out on a Monday each week to be learnt for and tested on the Friday.
The children are focusing on all areas of maths and will be practising arithmetic weekly. They will also be doing daily times tables practise to support their learning. They can go online on Times Tables Rockstars which is a website which helps the children with the accuracy and the speed of their times tables. They each have a username and password and can log on at home to practise too.
In the first half of the spring term, the children will be learning about properties and changes in materials. In the second half of the term they will be investigating forces and magnets.
In history this half term, Base 5 will be learning about the early Islamic civilisation. We will be learning facts about life in that time and using sources to help us find out more about their lives.
