Acorns / Oak Nursery / Reception
Welcome to Nursery!
This term we welcome a number of new children to our setting, including a few ‘under 3’s. We are also very happy to see the nursery children return since the Lockdown in March.
Our main aim this term is to focus on Personal, Social and Emotional Development, and so far the group seem very settled and content. We are allowing some time for the children to get used to be back in nursery, and for the new children to settle in and then we will move onto our first main theme ‘Feelings’, where we have activities planned around The Colour Monster book. We will then link this in to ‘All About Me’, where we will make some self-portraits for our Display.
Before we broke up for the Summer the children planted some Pumpkin and Sunflower seeds. We now have Pumpkins ready and some still growing, which the children have decided to carry around in the outdoor area. The Pumpkins have been on the new ‘play bus many times, and they are great for talking about size and colour and for talking about seeds and growing. We will link this into Autumn Harvest and Halloween. Hopefully we can carve a pumpkin and make some pumpkin soup or pie. We will harvest the seeds from the pumpkin and sunflower for future planting, and look at what we can try and grow this term.
In the Summer term we were lucky enough to be awarded just over £1,000 from the Tesco Bags 2 School Fund, so thankyou to all who put tokens in the collection box. This was to improve our Outdoor Area, so we are now choosing our new equipment. Over the Summer term Kay Bull (from Nursery) and her husband Mark have been very busy gathering donated pallets, paint, tyres, even a tonne of child-friendly bark was delivered to them after gentle persuasion. Together they have made a water wall, music wall, even a bus! Look out for the photos we will share through the website. The children and the staff are loving them and they really brighten up and enhance our outdoor area.
After Halloween we will have a theme on ‘Forest Animals’, focussing on hedgehogs, but will follow the children’s interests and find their favourite animals. We will make some Hedgehogs from playdough and hopefully we can get to our Forest School area to make some hedgehogs in the mud.
We will talk about Bonfire Night and safety and hopefully we can make a lovely Firework Display. We will then move on to Christmas and our Winter Theme.
We will plan activities around the above themes, but our aim is follow the ‘Planning in the Moment’ way, where we engage with the children’s interests and plan to extend their Learning in that moment and with follow-up activities.
